organizing...yet again Part 2

ok, yea, i know. it's been awhile. but I finally got enough motivation to post these pictures of my washed, ironed, folded, and color- coded fabric.... now that i'm finally am doing it, i'm realizing that it's not as big of a chore as i'm making it out to be. :)

The flowers were really pretty at this time, so I did an outside photo shoot to see the colors better, and to capture the flowers in bloom. :)

What I figured out after going through all my fabric:
  • too many cool colors (green, blue, purple)
  • too few warm colors (red, orange, yellow)
  • just enough neutral (brown, tan, black, and white)

And this is what resulted from all of this oraganizing:

A great big bowl of thread and unusable scraps. Unless there's something that you can do with them (if there is please tell me) other than throwing them away, that would be nice, but I'm feeling that these poor guys are going into the garbage... :)

organizing...yet again Part 1

i have no life. Since i had just organized my fabric by color, i decided that i needed to wash all my fabric. well, all my fabric minus felt, fleece, and other furry/silky fabrics. i ended up with two huge clothes baskets of fabric. yes, two of these huge baskets.

Pictures of the fabric trimmed of its loose threads, ironed, and neatly folded away are to follow.

Here are some more random pictures:
Watermelons in Michigan? I must be dreaming! :)

The sun setting over Lake Michigan

I don't know why I like this picture... I guess it reminds me of heaven. Where everything is white, clean, and pretty.... :)

I'd like to know what this picture reminds you of, so please comment!

a bad mistake turned good

the bad news:
as i'm getting really excited about getting close to finishing my quilt front, i realize that i messed up. The mistake includes ripping out 20 seams and sewing 20 more seams... not my idea of fun.... :)  I was supposed to sew white-black, white-black, etc. but I actually sewed 20 black-white instead... but anyways, let's not dwell on the bad. onto the good.

the good news:
i'm an optimist, sometimes. this was one of those times... it gave me an opportunity to get back to posting on my blog! :) yes, i know, it's sad that i had to make a mistake to get back to posting... oh well. i'll leave you with a few close-up pictures of my animals... getting a picture of our pigs was the hardest, since they scramble around doing donuts whenever somebody goes near them.
Leaper the Cat

Broiler Chickens (there are 25 of these)

Lucy the dog with the long tongue, the overbite, and the fear of water... :)

Lady the pig (not shown are Voldemort-a black pig, and Ralph-a red pig)

Organized!

Since my dear mother gave me permission to move my sewing table into the living room (yes, bad idea), I moved in today. I was previously in the dark, cold, basement that is full of spiders, and where nobody ever goes. I hauled up the table, put my sewing machine on it (which was previously camped out in my room), and then went through all my fabric.

I'm not a very experienced sewer, so I usually like to sew with nice, easy, cotton fabric. I have tons of fabric that is oddly textured, like silk, or very stretchy fabric, or even super furry fabric, which I have no idea what to do with. I sorted out the cotton from the others, and then sorted it by color! Now it looks so nice and neat and organized, though it's probably not going to stay that way. :)
